Carmel Valley is home to world-renowned vineyards and tasting rooms. Within steps of Hidden Valley Inn, there are 24 Carmel Valley wine tasting rooms with a wide variety of styles and producers to choose from. Below are some of our favorites that are not to miss!
Joyce Vineyards
All wines are produced and bottled at our own production facility in Salinas, California by winemaker Russell Joyce and his small team of dedicated individuals. Each individual who assists in making our production possible shares the same values when it comes to making wine in Monterey County.
We harvest at moderate ripeness in order to avoid any deliberate additions as much as possible so the finished wine will be as transparent as possible showing the natural character of the terroir from which it derives from. Élevage for all of our wines takes place in neutral vessels allowing the grape to shine and avoid becoming masked by overpowering oak characteristics.
Our main focus is to produce honest, transparent wine that represents a time and place. Each vintage of our wine will be unique given the growing conditions that season but one thing that will remain constant is our dedication in the cellar to produce honest wine that showcases the natural tension and energy that comes from Monterey’s coastal climate.

Holman Ranch
Located at the northeastern tip of the Carmel Valley Appellation, the family-owned Holman Ranch resides approximately 12 miles inland from the Pacific Coast. Our 100% estate-grown wine varietals are planted on approximately 18 acres of undulating terrain. The wines produced are unfined and crafted to deliver the true varietal of the grape from harvest to bottle.
The climate and terroir of the appellation have played a critical part in the success of our wines. The warmth of our inland valley coupled with the cooling marine layer has established itself as an ideal microclimate for the production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Our Burgundy Clones have thrived from the perfect blend of ideal climate, southern exposure, and thin rocky soils.
The estate wines of Holman Ranch include: Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Rosé of Pinot Noir, and Sparkling (or Brut) Rosé.

Testarossa Winery
The grape-growing tradition in the Santa Lucia Highlands was first established with the arrival of the Spanish in the 1790s. The modern wave of vineyard plantings began in the 1980s and the region has gained a world-renowned reputation for fabulous California Pinot Noir. We, at Testarossa Winery, have been making wines from this region since 1997 and continue to build strong relationships with the top vineyard farmers. We now source grapes from ten different vineyards producing some of the country’s most outstanding Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.

Bernardus Winery
Bernardus’ three estate vineyards — Marinus, located in Cachagua and planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec; Featherbow, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown in front of the winery; and Ingrid’s Vineyard, located 10 miles west of Marinus and planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir — are managed by Matt Shea, a champion of sustainable practices that ensure vine and soil health while reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides. His goal is to produce the best possible fruit while caring for the land on which it grows.

Talbott Vineyards
Located in the picturesque heart of Carmel Valley Village, our Tasting Room offers a one-of-a-kind wine-tasting experience. The Tasting Room features a lovely outdoor seating area that is perfect for picnic dining as guests are welcome to bring their own food, or just relax with some delicious wine.

I. Brand & Family Wines
We did not set out to make these wines. We discovered great vineyards at the edge of sensible farming and decided to bring them to light. The farther we looked, the more we found – remote, challenging vineyards, with hard depleted soils, and intense sunlight tempered only by the coastal breeze. Vineyards are capable of producing only the most idiosyncratic wines. Our goal as winemakers is to lightly polish the roughest edges and leave the idiosyncrasy intact. It is here in the back country, filled with individual characters, where Le P’tit Paysan comes to life.
